Coenzyme Q redox signalling and longevity

چکیده
Mitochondria are the powerhouses of cell. They produce a significant amount energy we need to grow, survive and reproduce. The same system that generates in form ATP also produces Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). Mitochondrial (mtROS) were considered for many years toxic by-products metabolism, responsible ageing degenerative diseases. Today, know mtROS essential redox messengers required determine cell fate maintain cellular homeostasis. Most produced by respiratory complex I (CI) III (CIII). How when CI CIII ROS is determined state Coenzyme Q (CoQ) pool proton motive force (pmf) generated during respiration. During ageing, there an accumulation defective mitochondria generate high levels mtROS. This causes oxidative stress disrupts signalling. Here, review how young old derived control physiological pathological processes. Finally, discuss why damaged amass as well methods preserve mitochondrial signalling with age.

Photochromic coenzyme Q derivatives: switching redox potentials with light.
Coenzyme Q is an important redox cofactor involved in a variety of cellular processes, and is thus found in several cell compartments. We report a photochromic derivative of coenzyme Q that combines the molecular structures of the redox active cofactor and a photochromic dye. Light irradiation triggers an electronic rearrangement reversibly changing the redox potential. We used this effect to c...

Coenzyme Q(10) (CoQ(10)) is an essential electron carrier in the mitochondrial respiratory chain and an important antioxidant. Deficiency of CoQ(10) is a clinically and molecularly heterogeneous syndrome, which, to date, has been found to be autosomal recessive in inheritance and generally responsive to CoQ(10) supplementation. CoQ(10) deficiency has been associated with five major clinical phe...

Two alternative models of organization of the mitochondrial electron transport chain (mETC) have been alternatively favored or questioned by the accumulation evidences of different sources, the solid model or the random collision model. Both agree in the number of respiratory complexes (I-IV) that participate in the mETC, but while the random collision model proposes that Complexes I-IV do not ...

Reactive oxygen species are highly reactive molecules and have been implicated in the pathophysiology of many diseases, including diabetes mellitus, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and cardiovascular, renal, inflammatory, infectious, and neurologic diseases (1, 2). Cells and biological fluids have an array of protective antioxidant mechanisms, both for preventing the production of free radicals a...
متن کاملCoenzyme Q 10 : a Review
Ubiquinone or Co Q(10) is essentially a vitamin like substance and is a cofactor of an enzyme. It is an integral part of the memberanes of mitocondria where it is involved in the energy production. It is a nutrient necessary for the function of every cell of the body especially vital organs of the body like heart, liver, brain etc. Studies have shown that coenzyme Q(10) alters the natural histo...
